Recently, Jtegert announced that it has successfully developed a new "long-life riveted shaft for planetary gears" that is used in planetary gear units for automotive automatic transmissions (stepped AT, CVT, HV).

The newly developed planetary gear shaft adopts a special heat treatment technology. Both ends are fixed to the planet carrier by riveting, which improves the overall durability and the life time is more than twice the original. As a result, the miniaturization of the entire planetary gear unit will improve the lightening and high efficiency of the transmission assembly.

The newly developed planetary gear shaft adopts a special heat treatment technology to increase the hardness of the roller rolling surface while maintaining the low hardness of the fixed part (see the figure below). In this way, the “studded and fixed” approach enables the overall miniaturization of the planetary gears and improves the durability of the roller rolling surfaces, successfully reducing the deformation of the shaft, and increasing the life of the shaft by more than two times.
